eye

'Ayn - a letter I am absolutely in love with; mostly because of its amazing curvy shape. It is an Arabic letter, one of the ancient Semitic letters, found also in Hebrew, Aramaic, Phoenician etc... it name comes from the word "eye" and it means "eye" in many Semitic languages including Arabic and Hebrew... the letter was actually represented with an "eye" depiction/hieroglyph in many ancient languages such as Proto-Canaanite...

I wasn't sure if I wanted to depict it with an "eye" - and after quarrelling with myself I decided not to - I like this series of mine to be very abstract and well an eye-shaped-ayin wouldn't really be abstract...

Oh, and I would die if I didn't mention: 'ayin is also the first letter of the word "عشق" that is "love"... it is one of the reasons why I love this letter.

Yuvarlak hatlarına aşık olduğum şekliyle - 'Ayn harfi. Arapça, İbranice, Aramice gibi birçok Semitik dilde bulunan pek eski bir harftir... bugün hâlen Arapça, İbranice gibi dillerde "göz" anlamındaki köke işaret eden harf nitekim antik dillerde (örneğin Proto-Kenan dilinde) "göz" şekli/hiyeroglifi ile resmedilmekteydi.

Göz-benzeri bir betimleme mi yapsam diye çok düşündüm fakat sonunda yapmamaya karar verdim; bu seriyi soyut yapmayı planlıyorum&seviyorum - göz şeklinde yapsaydım soyutluğundan kaybederdi... üstelik "göz" betimlemesi bana nedense sadece "ah minel" hatlarında özellikle çekici geliyor.
